Spotted: Ace Hardware #MiracleBuckets at BBCH!

We always feel a little silly calling a bucket “adorable,” but the bright blue Ace Hardware #MiracleBuckets really are just that! And hard-working, too… but more on that in a minute.

First of all, BBCH would like to thank all of our awesome Ace Hardware retailers who participated in Ace Bucket Days August 2nd-4th! The helpful folks at Ace offered up these 5-gallon blue #MiracleBuckets for a mere $5, and then donated the $5 raised per bucket to BBCH! Customers not only walked out with these sweet buckets, but also 20% off almost any merchandise they could fit inside!

So now let us tell you about how hard-working those sturdy blue buckets are! The first week of August was “Camp Week” here at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Kids who are hospitalized during the summer often miss out on being able to attend summer camp, and the Child Life team here at BBCH was NOT okay with that- so they decided to bring camp to the hospital! Our week’s worth of camp activities included camp t-shirts, a battery-powered campfire and microwave s’mores, nerf archery contests, picnics, camp-themed arts + crafts… and so much more. But the most highly-anticipated event of Camp Week is the sliming. Yes, you read that right: the SLIMING. Our “campers” (our patients) get to vote on two staff members to be slimed… and we’re talking GALLONS of slime! The Child Life team visited our local Ace Hardware to purchase camp week supplies- and two of those Ace #MiracleBuckets became the temporary home of some bright green slime, just before it was dumped over the heads of two members of our nursing team!

We bet you never thought about filling your bucket with slime- but the #MiracleBucket possibilities really are endless! Thanks for helping make slime day possible, Ace!
