BBCH Gender Clinic Program Manager, Brandy Brown Receives Inaugural Rainbow Award
As a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is in the great company of North America’s best children’s hospitals and is considered “small but mighty” among our peers nationally. It is our sincere honor and pleasure to share one of the reasons that Maine’s only fully-accredited children’s hospital is the special place that it is.
Last month, in recognition of Pride Month, the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) LGBTQIA2S+ Employee Resource Group awarded the first-ever Rainbow Award to Brandy Brown DSW, LCSW and Senior Program Manager for The Gender Clinic at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital. Earlier this year, Brandy’s efforts to build and expand the gender medicine program at BBCH came to the attention of our colleagues at CMN Hospitals, leaving them moved, inspired and encouraged by the care provided to youth in Maine.
In the words of the CMN Hospitals LGBTQIA2S+ Employee Resource Group “What Brandy has done for The Gender Clinic at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital – and the state of Maine – is something to be celebrated. Because of their commitment to care and awareness for LGBTQ+ youth, we are honored to present this award to her.”
Brandy received this surprise honor during a CMN Hospitals virtual staff meeting where she presented on the work of the BBCH Gender Clinic and her vision for its future. Brandy was also joined by the parent of a BBCH patient who spoke to the lifesaving impact that this Clinic – and providers like Brandy – can have for youth in Maine.
Here at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital we want to shine a light on Brandy’s dedication, hard work, and accomplishments, and we hope that by doing so, even more people will join us in cheering her on as she changes what is possible in gender medicine, inspires change, and brings people together to build more inclusive communities.
