Meet Talon, a 7-Year-Old who Donated his Birthday in Support of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital

“We believe in giving back and this is a great way for Talon to help other kiddos. We could have lost him, so this birthday is extra special for us all.”

When Talon started running a fever and complaining of ear pain, his mother, Kerri, assumed that he had caught strep throat from his cousin. His family never expected that they would soon be making multiple trips to his pediatrician, the emergency room, and eventually spend a week in The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) inpatient unit. Talon had developed meningococcal septicemia, a rare bacterial infection in the bloodstream, and had gone into septic shock.

Thanks to the care at BBCH, Talon is now back to his happy, healthy self and recently celebrated his seventh birthday on June 29th by giving back to the children’s hospital. Through the My Miracle Birthday program, Talon asked his friends and family to honor his special day by making a donation to BBCH.

The icing on the cake? Saco & Biddeford Savings Institute and P&C Insurance will be matching every dollar that Talon raised.
