BBCH Specialty License Plate: Celebrating 5 years!
It’s hard to believe- but we’re celebrating the fifth anniversary of the BBCH license plate being passed into law! Five years ago in April 2018, the Maine Legislature voted unanimously to create the specialty license plate benefitting The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and on April 19, 2018 it was signed into law by the Governor. A short time later, in October 2018, BBCH specialty plates became available to the public.
What has happened in those five years?
All those blue and green BBCH license plates on the road make a difference! The BBCH specialty plate has raised more than $612,000 to help kids cared for at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital over these last five years! We are so thankful for this support!
At last count (December 2022), there we more than 16,400 active BBCH passenger plates on the road in Maine! We wish we could thank all those folks individually; it makes our hearts full to know that so many Mainers want to help our patients and care teams.
And while there isn’t a specialty plate available for ambulances (the BBCH specialty plate is only available for passenger vehicles), we think it’s pretty cool that our Angel 1 ambulance sports a promo for the license plate on the back door! In fact, BBCH’s Angel 1 and Angel 2 ambulances are made possible thanks to community donations- like the funds raised by the BBCH specialty plate!
And we’d also like to say one more big thank you to Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution (SBSI), our Premier License Plate Sponsor! We are so thankful for their generous support of the BBCH plate and the children’s hospital.
